A California Studio

Hasti Alhouei paints in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California, in a studio where hand-built drawing instruments share the room with ink, acrylic and stretched canvas. The light does half the work: long, warm and unhurried, it suits paintings built from patience.

The work travels further than the foothills. Her first U.S. solo exhibition ran at Hugomento in San Francisco; collectors and interior designers from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, Carmel, Santa Barbara, Orange County and San Diego have placed her paintings in homes and projects across the state. California is not just the studio's address — its landscape is in the palette: dry-grass gold, granite grey, live-oak umber.
